Given below is a list of maintenance procedures to ensure a best print quality.

Information on ink cartridges and the print head:

  • Keep all the Ink Cartridges in the original sealed packages until there is a need
  • Store the Ink Cartridges at room temperature
  • Do not unnecessarily clean the print head since it shortens the life of the cartridges and results in Ink waste
  • Avoid rough handling like dropping, jarring ink cartridges prior to its installation

Note: This Printer is designed to use ink cartridges for printing until the cartridges gets empty. If this happens replace the old ones with the new cartridge to continue printing

Print using black cartridge alone does need some color ink:

During the Ink Jet Printing process the ink is used in a various number of ways. This is done to prevent the print head from getting damaged. Depending on the Print Quality some ink are used in residual manner and some ink in evaporation manner.

Keep a check on the estimated Ink Levels:

Using the Printer Control Panel or Printer Software you can keep a check on the estimated Ink Levels

  • Touch or Swipe down the tab in the Control Panel to open the Dashboard
  • Touch the Ink icon to check the Ink Levels in the Cartridge

Note: When you receive a low ink alert, consider ordering the replacement cartridge in order to avoid possible Printing delays. The Ink Level indicator might be inaccurate or unavailable if used cartridges are made as replacements.

Using the 123 HP Officejet Pro 8720 Printer Software you can keep a check on the estimated Ink Levels (Windows):

  • Open the 123 HP Officejet Pro 8720 Printer Software
  • Click Estimated Ink Levels

Using the HP Utility you can keep a check on the estimated Ink Levels (OS X):

  • Open HP Utility software from the Hewlett-Packard folder
  • Select the 123 HP Officejet Pro 8720 from the list of Printers
  • Click Supplies Status to check on the estimated Ink Levels

Note: When you receive a low ink alert, consider ordering the replacement cartridge in order to avoid possible Printing delays. The Ink Level indicator might be inaccurate or unavailable if used cartridges are made as replacements.

Replace the Print Cartridges:

  • Make sure to turn the Power ON for Printer
  • After the print carriage stops moving, Push upward to open the cartridge access door
  • Press the front part of the cartridge to release it, and then remove from the its slot
  • Remove the packaging from the new cartridge
  • According to the color coded letters the new cartridge is slide into the empty slot until it gets permanently fixed
  • Repeat the above process to replace the print cartridges
  • Push downwards to close the cartridge access door

Caution: Never turn off the Printer while Cartridges are missing. Immediately replace the missing cartridge to avoid ink system damage and possible extra ink usage.

Order Ink Cartridges:

For ordering the Ink Cartridges go to www.hp.com/buy/supplies. Ordering cartridges online is not supported in all Countries/Regions. However, over a phone you can order the shopping list from a Local Store. Always replace the Cartridge according to its Cartridge Number. You can refer the Cartridge Number at the following places:

  • Open the Embedded Web Server page, Click the Tools tab and select the Product Information form. Click Ink Gauge to get the Cartridge Number
  • Available on the Printer Status report
  • Available on the Labels of the Ink Cartridge
  • Open the cartridge access door to refer for the Cartridge Number present on the Sticker

Store Print supplies:

Cartridges can remain in the printer for an extended period of time. However remember to turn off the Printer while it is not in use to ensure an optimal cartridge health.

Anonymous Printer Usage Information:

The 123 HP Officejet Pro 8720 Cartridge used in this Printer contains a memory chip that supports the operation of the printer. In addition, this memory chip has a limited capacity to store a standard set of anonymous information. i.e., Number of Pages printed, Page Coverage, Frequency of Printing and Print Modes etc,.

This memory chip information helps 123 HP Officejet Pro 8720 to design future printers according to customer needs. If you prefer to not allow access to the memory chip, you can make it inoperable. Once this is done then the Cartridge itself will become unusable in an 123 HP Officejet Pro 8720 Printer.

To disable the usage information function:

  • Touch or Swipe down the tab in the Control Panel to open the Dashboard
  • Touch Setup Tab and Tap Preferences
  • Touch Store Anonymous Usage Information button to turn it OFF

Information on Cartridge Warranty information:

The 123 HP Officejet Pro 8720 cartridge warranty is only applicable when the product is used in its designated 123 HP Officejet Pro 8720 Printing device. The end of warranty date can be found on the product in YYYY/MM format. The duration for the warranty period of the product is covered as long as the HP ink is not depleted and to the end of warranty date. This warranty is not applicable to HP ink cartridges that are refilled, re manufactured, refurbished, misused or tampered with.

LOAD PAPER

To Load a Standard Paper:

  • Remove the input tray completely
  • Slide the pair of Paper width guides towards the edge of the input tray
  • According to the desired 123 HP Officejet Pro 8720 paper length, Slide the Paper length guide present in the input tray
  • Fix the paper to portrait orientation with print side facing down
  • In addition, use the stack height marking on the right edge of the input tray to make sure the stack of papers are stuffed properly and aligned according to the paper orientation

Note: Do not load paper while Printer is in operation

  • Adjust both of the paper width guides and the paper length guide until they touch the edge of the stack of paper
  • If there is paper after printing is done then check the input tray and remove the paper
  • Reinsert the input tray into the Printer

Note: Apart from Input Tray1 some models of the printer come with Input Tray2 additionally

To load an envelope:

  • Remove the input tray from underneath the 123 HP Officejet Pro 8720 Printer
  • If there is paper remaining in the input tray after the print job done, and is not compatible for further printing, then remove it from the input tray
  • Insert the envelopes to input tray with print side down in portrait orientation manner. Make sure the stack of envelopes are pushed to the back edge of the input tray
  • Adjust both of the paper width guides and the paper length guide until they touch the edge of the stack of envelopes
  • In addition, use the stack height marking on the left edge of the paper width guide to make sure the stack of papers are stuffed properly
  • Reinsert the input tray into the Printer

To Load Cards and Photo Paper:

  • Remove the input tray from underneath the 123 HP Officejet Pro 8720 Printer
  • Insert the cards or photo paper to input tray with print side down in portrait orientation manner. Make sure the stack of envelopes are pushed to the back edge of the tray
  • Adjust the paper width guides and the paper length guide until they touch the edge of the stack of envelopes
  • In addition, use the stack height marking on the left edge of the paper width guide to make sure the stack of papers are stuffed properly
  • Reinsert the input tray into the Printer

Load a Document on the Scanner Glass:

Using the scanner glass you can Copy, Scan or Fax the originals.

Note: Make sure the scanner glass and lid backing are kept clean to avail the special features offered by 123 HP Officejet Pro 8720 Printers. Make sure you empty the automatic document feeder tray before opening the lid on the Printer.

To place an original on the scanner glass:

  • Open the Scanner Lid
  • Place your original print side facing down

Tip: Using the engraved guides present along the edge of the scanner to load the original document properly

  • Close the Scanner Lid

Load a document in the automatic document feeder:

Using the document feeder you can Copy, Scan or Fax the originals.

  • Place your original print side facing up into the Document Feeder
  • Slide the paper onto the document feeder and continue so until you hear a tone or see a message on the printer control panel.
  • Inwardly move both the paper width guides present on the document feeder to hold the Paper intact
