Troubleshooting 123 HP Deskjet 4729 Printer

Paper Jams and Paper feed problem

To clear away paper jam from the input tray of the Printer:

  • Press the Cancel button to abort print job and clear paper jam automatically. If this does not work then follow the steps given below
  • Pull to open the input tray and clear the paper jam
  • Remove any torn or jammed papers and then Reload the input tray with papers

Note: Do not take away the input tray shield since it acts as a barrier to foreign debris that get into the paper path, thus causing paper jam

  • Press the Resume button present in the control panel to continue the current print job

To clear away paper jam from the Output Tray of the Printer:

  • Press the Cancel button to abort print job and clear paper jam automatically. If this does not work then follow the steps given below
  • Pull to open the output tray and clear the paper jam
  • Press the Resume button present in the control panel to continue the current print job

To Clear away paper jam from the cartridge access area:

  • Press the Cancel button to abort print job and clear paper jam automatically. If this does not work then follow the steps given below
  • Turn OFF the Power button in the Printer
  • Close the Output Tray extender and Pull the Output Door from its both sides in a clockwise direction to stow it in the printer
  • Open the Front Door present within the Output Door
  • Open the Cartridge access door and wait until the print carriage is moved to the center
  • In order to remove paper jam slide the print carriage to the right
  • Close the Cartridge access door and the Front Door
  • Close the Output Door by pushing it anti-clockwise towards the Printer until it firmly fits
  • Pull out the output tray extender for your convenience
  • Turn ON the Power button in the Printer

To Clear away paper jam present inside the printer:

  • Press the Cancel button to abort print job and clear paper jam automatically. If this does not work then follow the steps given below
  • Turn OFF the Power button in the Printer
  • Pull to open the input tray completely
  • Turn the printer all over and locate the clean out door, and then pull both tabs to open it.
  • Remove the jammed paper
  • Gently push the cleanout door towards the printer until both the tabs snap to latches into place
  • Turn back the printer all over and fix the input tray to the Printer
  • Turn ON the Power button in the Printer

To Clear a Print Carriage Jam:

  • Remove any objects such as paper and other foreign debris, that blocks the print carriage from functioning
  • Avoid using any tools to free print carriage stall

How to prevent Paper Jams

  • Load the input Tray with a suitable number of sheets, avoid keeping large number of sheets at once
  • Promptly take away the printed papers from output tray in order to neglect paper jamming
  • While loading papers to the input Tray make sure that the papers are not cracked or bent condition
  • Ensure the loaded papers remain stationary in the input tray and the edges not bent
  • Always use same type of paper and do not use different paper types while loading the input Tray. i.e., heavily thick or too thin papers
  • Ensure all of the feed papers in the input Tray are of standard size
  • Using the paper-width guides in the input tray to feed the papers, eliminates the jams and misalignment during printing
  • Always use the input tray shield to avoid foreign debris getting into the paper path, thus causing paper jam
  • Always switch off the Printer before loading paper to input tray. Also avoid loading paper during printing process

123 HP Deskjet 4729 Ink Cartridge issues

Identify the Ink Cartridge problem:

  • If the Ink Level icon for the corresponding tri-color cartridge is lit then there is no problem present in either of the ink cartridges
  • If the Ink Level icon for the corresponding tri-color cartridge blinks then a problem is present in the tri-color cartridge
  • Remove the black ink cartridge and close the cartridge access door, if problem persist then check for:
  • Use the Ink Alert Light and the corresponding Ink Level Icon to check on the status of the ink cartridge issue
  • If you get an ink cartridge issue from the 123 HP Deskjet 4729 Printer software then do one of the following:
  • Install the black ink cartridge to the cartridge slot and remove the tri-color ink cartridge to check on the status of the ink cartridge issue
  • If the Ink Level icon for the corresponding black cartridge blinks then a problem is present in the black cartridge
  • If the Ink Level icon for the corresponding black cartridge is lit then there is no problem present in either of the ink cartridges

Fix Ink Cartridge problems:

Check the Ink Cartridge for plastic tape, if present then remove it. You can also clean the Cartridge contacts to troubleshoot Ink Cartridge problem.

To clean cartridge contacts:

  • Turn OFF the Power button in the Printer
  • Close the Output Tray extender and Pull the Output Door from its both sides in a clockwise direction to stow it in the printer
  • Open the Front Door present within the Output Door
  • Open the Cartridge access door and wait until the print carriage is moved to the center
  • One after the other remove the ink cartridges and clean the electrical contact using a swab
  • Reinstall the ink cartridges back to its slots

Caution: Make sure you reinstall the cartridges before 30 minutes of its removal, since a print head damage can result

  • Close the Cartridge access door and the Front Door
  • Close the Output Door by pushing it anti-clockwise towards the Printer until it firmly fits
  • Pull out the output tray extender for your convenience
  • Turn ON the Power button in the Printer

123 HP Deskjet 4729 Print Issues

To troubleshoot print issues in Windows OS:

Note: Ensure that you have loaded papers in the input tray and the Printer is turned ON

  • Windows XP: Click on the Start button in your Desktop and Click the Control Panel, and Click Printers and Faxes
  • Windows Vista: Click on the Start button in your Desktop, Click Control Panel and Click Printers
  • Windows 7: Click on the Start button in your Desktop and Click Devices and Printers
  • Windows 8.1 and Windows 8: Point the cursor to upper right corner of the screen to display the Charms bar. Click Settings icon and then Click Control Panel. Double-Click to open View devices and printers
  • Ensure that the Printer is not offline or paused. According to the Windows OS follow the steps given below:
  • If your Printer is USB Cable connected to Computer then unplug the USB cable and reestablish the connection to resolve any issues
  • If your Printer is wireless connected to Computer then check for the connectivity to resolve any issues
  • Check the Control Panel for error message and Open the 123 HP Deskjet 4729 Printer software and follow the onscreen instructions to resolve specific issue
  • Open the Printer Icon or right click the printer icon to select See What’s Printing to open the Print Queue
  • Click Printer Menu and deselect Pause Printing or Use Printer Offline option
  • Right click the Printer Icon to set it as default printer

  • Windows XP: Click on the Start button in your Desktop and Click the Control Panel, and Click Printers and Faxes
  • Windows Vista: Click on the Start button in your Desktop, Click Control Panel and Click Printers
  • Windows 7: Click on the Start button in your Desktop and Click Devices and Printers
  • Windows 8.1 and Windows 8: Point the cursor to upper right corner of the screen to display the Charms bar. Click Settings icon and then Click Control Panel. Double-Click to open View devices and printers
  • If problems persist then clear the print queue. According to the Windows OS follow the steps given below:
  • Restart your Computer
  • Windows Vista: Click on the Start button in your Desktop, Click Control Panel, System and Maintenance, Administrative Tools. Double Click Services and right click Print Spooler service and select Properties. Locate the General tab and select Automatic.
  • Windows XP: Click on the Start button in your Desktop and Right Click My Computer. Click Manage and then Click Services and Applications. Double Click Services and right click Print Spooler service and Click Restart to restart from begin
  • Open the Control Panel window and double click Devices and Printers Icon
  • Double click your Printer Name to open the print queue
  • Use Printer menu and click Cancel all documents or Purge Print Document, and then Click Yes button

To troubleshoot print issues in Apple OS X:

  • Click a print job to select and perform functions from Delete, Hold, Resume and Pause Printer
  • Click the Open Print Queue button
  • Click System Preferences and Click Print & Fax
  • Ensure that the Printer is not offline or paused. Follow the given below steps to make the Printer Online
  • Disconnect the USB cable and reconnect it
  • Check for error message in control panel and resolve it
  • If you are finished with setting changes then try to Print again
  • Restart the Printer and Computer

  • Enable the Wi-Fi Direct feature from your Computer or mobile devices and synchronize it with your Printer
  • When prompted enter the Wi-Fi Direct password to establish connection

Printer Hardware Problem

Unexpectedly Printer shuts down:

  • Check for the incoming Power and the Power On button
  • If problem persist, Disconnect the Power cord and wait for 15 seconds and connect it to the wall outlet
  • Ensure there is no damage to the Power cord and is firmly fixed

Note: Auto OFF Mode will automatically turn the Printer OFF, if printer remained inactive for a duration of 2 hours.

Misalignment of Print head:

  • Print head misalignment happens if you load paper during the printing process
  • You have to clean the Print Head regularly and check for any defective sensor to neglect alignment problem
